All-Concorde District Honors

Both the Herndon High girls’ and boys’ lacrosse teams were well-represented in recent All-Concorde District selection recognition for the spring season. The All-District Teams were announced during the halftime intermissions of last Friday night’s Concorde District girls’ and boys’ finals games at Chantilly High School. The Oakton High girls won their title game contest in the double-header championship night’s first game with a victory over Centreville. In the nightcap finals game, the Oakton boys defeated Westfield.

Day Determined to Build a Football Winner at Herndon

New Hornets' head coach wants team to be physically tough.

After being a part of two Northern Regional football titles, two state championships and six district crowns while serving as an assistant coach over the years at Concorde District high schools Westfield and Centreville, Brian Day, this past January, accepted the position as new head football coach at fellow Concorde rival Herndon High.

Girls sporting pink look at district lax playoffs; McLean boys tennis unbeaten; Templin leads Saxons softball over Marshall.

This week the undefeated McLean High boys' tennis team, under head coach Aavo Tomkov, had a challenging slate of competition versus Liberty District opponents. The Highlanders (8-0), earlier in the week on Tuesday, April 24, were scheduled to travel to cross-town and Liberty District rival Langley High (7-1).

Herndon Softball Impressive Over Season's First Half

Young Hornets team set to host defending region champs Westfield this Friday night.

The Herndon High girls' softball team, under the direction of head coach Jourdan Coombs, has played with a freshness and vibrancy which has resulted in numerous wins this spring season. Despite having an overall inexperienced and young varsity roster made up mostly of freshmen and sophomores, the Hornets have proven to be a handful for their opponents to handle on way to winning seven of their first 11 games thus far, going into this week's action.

Herndon Boys' Soccer Ready for District Play

The Herndon High boys' soccer team has experienced a successful opening half of the season, going 4-0-2 over its first six games. The team's solid play thus far has the Hornets in a good mindset as they prepare for a tough Concorde District schedule ahead.

Herndon Baseball Off to Fast 4-0 Start

Hornets spending spring break week in Myrtle Beach; South Lakes baseball notches first win.

The Herndon High baseball team is spending its spring break week competing in a tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Hornets, who won their first three games of the season prior to making their trip down south, saw their record improve to 4-0 with a 13-5 win over Monticello High (Charlottesville) this past Saturday, March 31 in its first of three scheduled games in the Gamecock state. Herndon was scheduled to play games versus Pickerington High School North (Ohio) at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3 of this week, and Hancock County High (Lewisport, Kent.) on Thursday, April 5 at 3 p.m. Herndon's spring break games are taking place at Griffith Stadium at the Cal Ripken Experience facility in Myrtle Beach.

Huge Turnout for South Lakes Baseball Opener

Seahawks fall to Herndon in local rival game, 13-3; Oakton off to 3-0 start.

The South Lakes Seahawks varsity baseball team kicked off their 2012 high school season Friday night, March 16 against rival Herndon High. The rain cleared and the stands at South Lakes were packed with a large contingent of fans, including students and little leaguers. Reston Little League was well represented on both teams with 18 alumni participating.

St. Patrick’s Day Basketball Celebration at Wakefield High

Northern Region’s top seniors boys’ high school players, including Westfield’s Quentin Basil, compete in All-Star game, festivities.

Bryant Fultz wasn’t among the top performers in the dunk contest during the Northern Region Coaches Association All-Star Boys’ Basketball festivities on March 17, but the West Potomac senior made his mark during the main event.

Herndon Girls Looking for Elusive First Win in District

Hornets have lost close games in Concorde to Westfield, Centreville, and Chantilly.

The Herndon High girls’ basketball team came up just short in a 49-46 overtime loss at Concorde District opponent Westfield last Friday night. Westfield, one of the better teams in the Northern Region, improved its record to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in district play. Herndon, meanwhile, slipped to 8-7 and 0-4.

Oakton Out-touches Chantilly in Concorde Swim Meet

Win and Loss for Flint Hill Swimming

Oakton High School's varsity swim and dive teams took to the water against Chantilly High School on Friday night, Jan. 6 at Oak Marr Recreation Center. Oakton's boys and girls fought to the finish, and held tight to their undefeated record this season. The boys won 160-155, and the girls won 177-135.

Additional Manpower Boosts Herndon High Wrestling

Hornets have good showing over break at Loudoun Holiday meet.

One year has made a positive difference for the Herndon High wrestling team. Last winter, the Hornets had a skeleton line-up with just five varsity team members. This season that has all changed as Herndon has enough personnel to fill out each weight class in competitions. Wins have been hard to come by, but at least Herndon is able to compete at all of the weight classes.
