Johnson, arguably the greatest athlete in the history of Herndon High School, strolls down memory lane, telling stories of his high school, college and National Football League careers for nearly an hour before realizing that, not only has he not tasted the cup of joe sitting in front of him, he hasn't even dashed it with any cream or sugar.

Alexa Lange, the 1988 3200-meter AAA state track champion, 1989 AAA state cross-country runner-up, 1989 third place finisher at the FootLocker National Southeast regional cross-country tournament and 1999 Texas State Championship triathlete, never saw the point in running before she set foot on the track at Herndon High School.

The long term season plan for the Herndon High boys' soccer team was to ultimately be playing its best by the postseason. The Hornets could not have fulfilled that mission any more successfully than they did at last week's Concorde District tournament where, as the No. 3-seed, they won all three of their games to capture the title.
