The Centreville High girls’ softball team is playing its best ball at the right time of the spring with the regular season winding down and the postseason just ahead.

Softball: The Lady Wildcats came out on top of their `rematch week’ with big wins against Herndon on Tuesday, May 1st and Westfield on Friday, May 4th. They have two wins against Robinson, one loss each to Chantilly and Oakton, and have split with Herndon and Westfield, bringing their record to 4-4 in the Concorde District.

Since its eight-game win streak ended with a loss at Liberty District opponent Stone Bridge High in Ashburn on Friday, April 27, the Madison High Warhawks girls' softball team has gotten back into the win column with a pair of district shutout wins. Both victories came last week.

The Madison Warhawks lost a 13-2 decision to Stone Bridge in a Liberty District girls’ softball game with first place on the line last Friday night, April 27. The Warhawks, with the setback, saw their eight-game win streak snapped. Madison jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. But after that, the Bulldogs cruised to the five-inning victory.
Westfield Working to Regain Winning Form

The Westfield High girls’ softball team, over the final few weeks of the regular season, will be looking to get back into the winning mode that was such a prominent characteristic of its season through mid-April.

Senior pitcher Casey Haynes led the Wootton softball team past Whitman on April 30 to capture the 4A South Division championship.
McLean Softball on Course for Strong Finish
Highlanders are 8-2 in the strong Liberty District.
Over the course of the high school girls' softball season, the McLean Highlanders have shown upward progress and gotten better and better. There have been a few lopsided losses to some exceptional opponents, but the Liberty District team has consistently responded with strong bounce-back games and improved play. All things considered, this spring's Highlanders have displayed both fortitude and talent, with an 11-4 overall record.

This week the undefeated McLean High boys' tennis team, under head coach Aavo Tomkov, had a challenging slate of competition versus Liberty District opponents. The Highlanders (8-0), earlier in the week on Tuesday, April 24, were scheduled to travel to cross-town and Liberty District rival Langley High (7-1).

The Madison High girls’ softball team paid tribute to four of the school’s teachers during pre-game ceremonies of the Warhawks’ Liberty District home game versus Fairfax last Friday night, April 20.

On Wednesday April 11, at Madison High School, the undefeated McLean High boys’ tennis team defeated Madison 8-1. Madison was competitive in all three doubles matches and three of the singles matches against a deep and impressive Highlander team.

Fielding a young lineup has not stopped the South County girls' softball team from having one of the better outfits in the Northern Region once again. The Stallions, with a starting lineup filled mostly with freshmen and sophomores, still showcased an impressive 11-2 overall record following a 3-2 loss at Lake Braddock earlier this week on Tuesday, April 17.

Lake Braddock's Amanda Hendrix tossed a complete game during her third consecutive start in the pitcher’s circle, holding South County scoreless after the third inning as the Bruins remained undefeated with a 3-2, eight-inning victory.
