Department of Homeland Security Secretary Benjamin Huffman issued a directive that "rescinds the Biden Administration's guidelines for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement actions that thwart law enforcement in or near so-called 'sensitive" areas. Sensitive areas are schools, churches, and healthcare facilities.

Michelle Reid, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, said in her Superintendent's Messages on January 25, “We are continuing to follow the law.” She cited the “1982 Supreme Court decision regarding Plyer v. Doe established that all children, regardless of immigration status, have the right to a public education.” “The Supreme Court ruled that this law violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, emphasizing that public education is a critical government function vital to preparing all children for a productive role in society.”
