Although playing games these days is dominated by video games, Stephanie Kuroda of Herndon went the opposite way. Kuroda invented a card game to sharpen the mind and bring people together. Her game, “Rock Paper Scissor Wizard Croc,” has elements of the hand gesture game with a little “Uno” and “Dungeons and Dragons,” thrown in to spice things up.

“It was a combination of things that led me to this,” she said.

She calls herself an introvert, but feels a game like this will bring people together similar to bridge players or the

poker group that meets every week. It’s a bit nostalgic but this is one of the elements that she wants to promote through the game. “These days people are building on nostalgia,” she said.

Her game description reads: “Think the familiar classic [rock, paper, scissors] but in card game form. Add a Wizard and a Crocodile (oh my!) and some Wild Cards, too. Then, have play unfold sequentially over multiple rounds.” There’s one-on-one play, tournament or group play and the rules are similar to the hand contest with rock, paper and scissors but then there’s a wizard and a card table, so it grows from there.

She’s applied for her trademark on the game and hopes it takes off from there. Everything is online now and she hasn’t tried to place her game in game stores yet.

With the holiday season approaching Kuroda hopes the low price and mail-ability might be to her favor. Kuroda’s company, Herndon-based Ready Player N is a member of the Made in Fairfax network, https://www.fcrevite.org/made-fairfax

Kurada has two other game ideas in mind and is waiting to act on them too.

The new, family-friendly card game called Rock Paper Scissors Wizard Croc is priced under $20. https://rpswc.com/
